Notice to our customers
The 1990 Organic Food Production Act requires that a farm
be certified as an organic producer in order to label its products organic.
Organic certification entails significant fees and costs of recordkeeping
and paperwork. This would require us to raise our prices, so we
have decided not to pursue certification at this time. This
requirement became effective on October 21, 2002.
This will not affect the way
we grow our produce, only what we can call it. We will not change
our growing methods, which we believe to be capable of satisfying the certification
requirements should we decide it is necessary. We will be happy to answer
questions on our methods and practices.
In our view, certification is necessary only for wholesale
markets and markets beyond the local area. Since we sell only locally and
since local customers can see for themselves how we operate, we believe
that our customers will continue to have confidence in our farm’s products.
We welcome your comments.
